Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass Products Announce Modernization Plans

Longtime local manufacturers Virginia Mirror Company and Virginia Glass Products are investing $3.8 million in new equipment and adding 9 jobs at their Martinsville and Henry County sites.

The companies announced their modernization plans at the City of Martinsville’s Council meeting on March 13, 2018.

Virginia Mirror was founded in Martinsville in 1913 and Virginia Glass Products was started in 1956. Together, the companies currently have 165 employees. Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass Products offer a wide array of glass products including all glass entrances, mirrors, custom tempering, frameless shower enclosures, and custom laminated products.

Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass Products are receiving a $35,000 TROF Grant (Tobacco Region Opportunity Fund), combined City and County Enterprise Zone Grants of $130,500 over five years and a $75,000 Existing Industry Grant from the EDC.

The investments and jobs will be spread between both plants and are “part of our companies’ continuous improvement as we are constantly looking to update and modernize our production operations to provide our residential and corporate customers the very best glass products on the market,” said John Korff, President and CEO.

Korff also expressed his appreciation to the Martinsville City Council, the Henry County Board of Supervisors, the Martinsville-Henry County EDC and the Virginia Tobacco Commission for the support and attention provided to existing companies.

Tobacco Commission member, Senator Bill Stanley said, “Virginia Mirror has been a valuable corporate partner for many years in Martinsville and Henry County. Their continued success is a testament to the strength of our local economy and the dedicated workforce we have here. I am pleased that the Tobacco Commission chose to support this project and look forward to many years of continued success for Virginia Mirror.”

“On behalf of the City of Martinsville, we’re pleased that between Tobacco, local enterprise zone benefits, and an Existing Industry Grant through the EDC, a generous package of financial assistance can be provided to one of the community’s long-standing corporate partners.  We look forward to the continued success of both Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass Products,” noted Martinsville Mayor Gene Teague.

“Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass have been stalwarts of the Martinsville-Henry County business community for more than 100 years,” said Jim Adams, Chairman of the Henry County Board of Supervisors. “We are thrilled that they’ve decided to expand and grow at their local facilities.”

“With today’s announcement, Virginia Mirror and Virginia Glass continue to be a solid member of our industrial base and we appreciate their continued investment and job growth in our community. We know our existing industries are other communities ‘prospects’ and we do not take that for granted,” said Mark Heath, President and CEO of the EDC.
