Celebrating National Window Film Day

Martinsville, VA (April 30, 2015) -  The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is pleased to join Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and local officials in recognizing Thursday, April 30, as National Window Film Day.

The window film industry is a powerful economic driver in Martinsville-Henry County that’s providing robust employment and education opportunities for the area. One of the world’s leading manufacturers of window film, Eastman, operates multiple facilities in the area and employs more than 700 people. Eastman sites produce some of the leading brands in automotive and architectural film including LLumar®, SunTek®, Vista®, Gila® and EnerLogic®.

“We like to say Martinsville-Henry County makes more film than Hollywood,” said Mark Heath, president/CEO of the EDC.  “We are proud to be world leaders in a high-tech, growth industry like window film.  It’s a great testament to the workforce of this area and the commitment of corporate leaders to invest in our community.  The creation of new, better paying jobs improves the quality of life for all of our citizens.”

The EDC is also working to equip the window film industry with highly skilled workers for years to come. The EDC is a partner with Eastman, Patrick Henry Community College and the New College Institute in a world-class training center customized to the specific needs of advanced film manufacturing. The Center for Advanced Film Manufacturing (CAFM) offers the Advanced Film Certification, an innovative 28-credit program designed to provide students with skills needed by window film and other advanced manufacturers. The first class of CAFM students will soon complete their first year of study, and be eligible to compete for new career opportunities.

Window film protects our skin, fortifies our office buildings and homes, and helps reduce glare and facing. National Window Film Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the men and women who manufacture , distribute and install window film, and educate the public about the industry’s contributions to the our society.
