It’s the shortest track on the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit, but with its 800 foot straight-aways and demanding layout, it’s never short on excitement.

Virginia Motorsports Technology Center (VMTC)
This 50,000 square foot facility, which opened in March 2005, features high tech work stations with state-of-the-art equipment. Students enrolled in Patrick Henry Community College’s Motorsports program develop and maintain their race and show cars in this facility. The VMTC provides a “Going Live” segment during which students work as interns in support of HT Motorsports Truck Team.

Patrick Henry Community College’s Motorsports Technologies Program (PHCC Motorsports)
PHCC Motorsports prepares students for all phases of accelerated motorsports performance technology, including engine construction. Through an innovative partnership with Arrington Manufacturing, which builds race engines and performs research and development for the Dodge motorsports program, and HT Motorsports, the operator of the No. 59 Toyota truck in the Craftsman Truck Series, the students of PHCC Motorsports design and build vehicles and engines that run on race day.
Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER)
VIPER unites the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, conveniently located 25 miles from Martinsville-Henry County, with Virginia Tech’s Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory. VIPER offers classes producing highly skilled individuals sought after by the motorsports industry. It also provides an invaluable resource for automakers, manufacturers and motorsports teams as a site for testing, simulation and research. At the center of its research testing capabilities is the state-of-the-art eight post vehicle dynamics rig providing race track analysis in a controlled laboratory environment.
Langley Wind Tunnel (LFST)
LFST, operated by Old Dominion University at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, offers a full suite of aerodynamic test and analysis services including force and moment measurement in the 30’x60’ and 14’x22’ full-scale wind tunnels at speeds up to 240 mph.
