Small Business Investment Forum to Hold 6th Annual Business Plan Competition
~Compete for funding, free space and mentoring ~

Martinsville, VA (April 26, 2013) - Local entrepreneurs have a chance to compete for funding, free space and mentoring through the Small Business Investment Forum business plan competition. Sponsors for this year include City of Martinsville, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, West Piedmont Business Development Center, MHC EDC Small, Minority & Entrepreneurial Division, Patrick Henry Community College, HD Web Studio, King Properties and FC Income Tax and Bookkeeping.

The competition consists of two rounds, with Round One being the review of each applicant's business plan by a panel of judges. Round Two of the competition begins after the judges select the best business plans and those applicants will be coached during preparation of an oral presentation. Judges will then select winners and assign mentors to work with them over the next year.

2012 SBIF winner Information Analytics Management has created 6 new jobs. Owner Terrilan House stated "The SBIF contribution and mentorship gave me the tools to build my business on a stable foundation and help make my business sustainable."

Another winning participant, Sharon Sleeper of Mollies Originals, touted "The sound business advice, financial backing, and training opportunities offered by SBIF have helped our business grow exponentially." Mollies Originals has secured local and state contracts.

Casting Logos Direct was also a 2013 awardee and created 9 jobs. Since its launch in 2008, the SBIF has awarded 15 businesses over $68,000. These businesses have collectively created 35 jobs.

Interested applicants must be located in Martinsville or Henry County and be a for-profit start-up or a business in operation less than three years as of the application deadline, May 14th.
