Economic Development Reaches National Audience
~Martinsville-Henry County highlighted in Fortune Magazine~

Martinsville, VA (September 11, 2006) — The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has partnered with the Commonwealth of Virginia in a special advertising section of Fortune Magazine.

Governor Kaine announced this initiative in May of this year saying that the special section would deliver the message that Virginia is a thriving business community. The section, included in the September issue of Fortune Magazine, highlights the economic advantage of doing business in Virginia.

“Telling our story in this special section of Fortune Magazine is a unique way to get our message out there,” says Mark Heath, EDC President/CEO. “It raises awareness of our region in the global market and helps ensure that we are an integral part of the State’s marketing efforts moving forward.”

The ad for Martinsville-Henry County features cars racing around the Martinsville Speedway with an inset image under a magnifying glass of an employee at CP Films with the message – Give us a closer look.

“We hope this message will encourage readers to consider the benefits of doing business here,” explains Crystal France, EDC Director of Marketing/PR. “We have international name recognition because of the Speedway; if Executives will look further, they’ll also find a diverse existing industry base that’s succeeding.”

The area is also prominently featured in the editorial portion of the issue. The New College Institute, Patrick Henry Community College, the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Initiative, Furniture Manufacturing, Oak Level Finishing and Repair, and the Martinsville Speedway are all featured in the Virginia story and serve to elevate awareness of Martinsville-Henry County.

Fortune Magazine reaches four million readers monthly. The September issue of the magazine is on newsstands now or the Virginia story may be accessed by visiting the following website: http://www.timeinc.net/fortune/services/sections/fortune/pdf/918_06_Virginia.pdf.

The mission of the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation is to create new job opportunities and expand the tax base for the area. The organization strives to support and develop local industry, as well as market Martinsville-Henry County globally as an exceptional place to live, work and play.

The EDC is a public-private partnership between the City of Martinsville, Henry County, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber’s Partnership for Economic Growth (C-PEG) and the Harvest Foundation of the Piedmont.
