Medical Data Systems, Inc. to bring 80 new jobs to City
Martinsville, VA (September 1, 2006) – The City of Martinsville, in concert with the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation, announced today that Medical Data Systems, Inc. will locate in Martinsville-Henry County, creating 80 new jobs over the next 18 to 24 months and investing approximately $400,000 in their operation. Medical Data Systems will occupy the 3rd floor of the BB&T Bank Building located at One Ellsworth Street in Uptown Martinsville, where they have signed a 10 year lease.
“Initially, we considered Martinsville because of an employee who has family ties to this area,” explains the company’s Chief Operating Officer Gary Ball. “Once we visited, we saw first hand evidence of an available, capable workforce and a quality of life that we wanted to embrace.”
Founded in 1985, Medical Data Systems provides medical accounts receivable management for hospital systems. This project is an expansion of their existing operations headquartered in Vero Beach FL., with operations centers in Vero Beach, FL; Sebring, FL; Melbourne, FL; Biloxi, MS; and Gadsden, AL. The Company has been approved for Workforce Investment Board On-the-Job Training benefits and will apply for Workforce services from the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. They also plan to utilize local Enterprise Zone benefits, which provide tax grants based on the Company’s contribution to the area’s tax base.
“We applaud Medical Data Systems’ decision to locate in Martinsville, particularly because of the significant positive impact its operations will have for UpTown merchants,” said Mayor Kimble Reynolds. “This is the type of commercial development that Martinsville looks forward to fostering: putting people to work, building our tax base and restoring traffic to our business district.”
“The accounts receivable function of Medical Data Systems fits our ‘back-office operations’ model, which parallels the Commonwealth’s Distributed Services Initiative,” remarked EDC Vice-Chair Mike Haley. “The starting pay is a good wage and eighty jobs play a critical role in revitalizing our UpTown in a way that ensures the entire community can benefit.”
Medical Data Systems expects to be staffed and operational by January 2007.
The mission of the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation is to create new job opportunities and expand the tax base for the area. The organization strives to support and develop local industry, as well as market Martinsville-Henry County globally as an exceptional place to live, work and play.
The EDC is a public-private partnership between the City of Martinsville, Henry County, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber’s Partnership for Economic Growth (C-PEG) and the Harvest Foundation of the Piedmont.
