Office of Tourism Seeks Events to Promote Area

Martinsville, VA (July 18, 2006) – The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation’s Office of Tourism is seeking listings for cultural events and activities taking place in 2007. The Office will use this information to promote the area on a national level throughout the year in numerous publications and websites.

The first place this information will be used is the 2007 Virginia Travel Guide. With the upcoming statewide 400th anniversary celebration of the founding of Jamestown in 2007, Virginia will be a national destination for tourists. To accommodate the anticipated tourist demand 800,000 copies of the travel guide are being printed, in addition to an on-line version of the guide.

“Of particular interest to Martinsville and Henry County is the fact that the state has recently agreed to the establishment of a new tourism region – Southern Virginia,” states David Rotenizer, Director of Tourim. “The area will no longer be lumped with Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Richmond as a result of the new region and will have its own section within the 2007 travel guide, giving Martinsville-Henry County a much higher profile than in the past.”

Please send submissions with contact info to pmccain@yesmartinsville.com, mail to P.O. Box 631, Martinsville, VA 24114 or call 276.403.5940.

The Mission of the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation is to create new job opportunities and expand the tax base for the area. The organization strives to support and develop local industry, as well as market Martinsville-Henry County globally as an exceptional place to live, work and play.
