Martinsville-Henry County EDC leases suite at Martinsville Speedway

Martinsville, VA (Dec. 21, 2006)
– The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) voted today to lease a 48-seat hospitality suite at the Martinsville Speedway for the 2007 racing season.

The suite, which cost $35,000 for the year, will be available for use by the EDC for the two NASCAR Nextel Cup race weekends, the Late Model Stock Car race and the Whelen Modified event.

“The Martinsville Speedway is our most recognizable and valuable marketing asset,” remarks Mark Heath, President/CEO. “Our community receives national recognition because of them and so it is appropriate that we utilize this asset to showcase our community.”

Thirty seats will be divided between site selection consultants, commercial real estate developers, state representatives and prospects. Eighteen seats will be used as an extension of the EDC’s industry PR campaign in an effort to show appreciation to existing industry for their contributions to the community.

The Speedway is a key component of the EDC’s marketing plan from an economic development perspective and as the region’s top tourism attraction. The EDC has previously maintained a presence at the track during races by sponsoring media luncheons as a way to inform the media of the community’s tourism assets. This suite elevates and compliments those efforts, which are ongoing.

The mission of the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation is to create new job opportunities and expand the tax base for the area. The organization strives to support and develop local industry, as well as market Martinsville-Henry County globally as an exceptional place to live, work and play.

The EDC is a public-private partnership between the City of Martinsville, Henry County, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber’s Partnership for Economic Growth (C-PEG) and the Harvest Foundation of the Piedmont.
