By Bulletin STAFF. Visitors to the area will get a clear sense of place and a warm welcome when they drive into Martinsville, thanks to new welcome signs.
David Rotenizer, Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp. tourism director, said seven EDC-funded signs have been erected this week.
“It gives a good impression to visitors to have attractive signs,” he said.
The signs are similar to welcome signs already put up in the county, said Rotenizer, except they are slightly smaller and have some design differences to give them originality.
Four of the signs replaced existing city welcome signs, including signs on Memorial Boulevard, Commonwealth Boulevard, East Church Street toward U.S. 58 East and U.S. 220 South. Three were added on Spruce Street, Liberty Street and Chatham Road.
The consistency between the city and county signs helps show unity between the two localities, Rotenizer said.
The signs were created by a local company, Arovik Signs of Collinsville, which got the $17,255 contract for the work. Rotenizer praised Arovik’s work, saying the signs were “very professional looking.”
They will all be landscaped by Gateway Streetscape Foundation, he said.
